SAFE Alliance seeks a Sexual Assault Accompaniment Specialist (Overnight) for the Community Services Program in the Sexual Assault Services department. The PRN Sexual Assault Accompaniment Specialist (OVN) provides medical accompaniment to survivors of sexual assault during their forensic exam for evidence collection. They provide face-to-face crisis intervention and support, discuss medical and legal options, and explain SAFE Alliance support services such as counseling, legal advocacy and follow-up services.

In the past two years, our community outreach and education has provided over 400 trainings to over 7,000 community members. Our various housing and shelter programs have provided over 46,000 nights/days of care and served over 3,000 youth and adults directly affected by abuse. We have provided over 10,000 callers/chats/texts, walk-in advocacy and crisis interventions or face-to-face emotional support through our 24/7 confidential SAFEline.

Position Details:

We are looking for several people to work on a part-time, non-exempt basis for an hourly salary of up to $20.54 for time worked, dependent upon experience; plus $5 on-call compensation for each 8-hour shift. The work location will be at various locations as you can be dispatched to any facility in Travis County and must respond in less than 60 minutes. This position will include some travel with no ability for remote/hybrid work. The shift currently available is for the On call hours of 11p-7a.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in social or behavioral sciences, or related field, preferred OR 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in customer service, direct medical client support, legal advocacy, law enforcement or behavioral/social services.
  • Commit to a minimum of 48 hours of on-call per month. PRN shifts are primarily weekends and M-F evenings. You self-schedule, so there is ample flexibility. PRN Advocates are not onsite while on-call; you may or may not be dispatched during your shift. (Accompaniments vary in length. Although rare, an accompaniment can last the duration of an 8-hour shift and/or go past the end of a shift. At Eloise House, you must stay in the building with the forensic nurse examiner until the exam concludes and the survivor leaves. PRN Advocates cannot do handoffs; therefore, it's recommended that you clear your calendar for a few hours after your shifts in case you're still with a survivor. Full-time staff is always available for guidance and assistance).
  • Ability to listen with compassion, empathy and nonjudgement, secure and deploy resources effectively and efficiently and gain the confidence and trust of fellow advocates and survivors through honesty, integrity and authenticity.
  • This position requires in-person service delivery, even during COVID19. PPE is provided and required; COVID19 vaccination required for clinic and hospital clearance. Emergency Departments recommend annual flu shot; working in hospital environments may include exposure to patients with a multitude of medical conditions.
  • You must have and maintain reliable transportation and state-required vehicle insurance and registration during participation in the program and arrive at any medical facility in Travis County in less than 60 minutes.
  • Have a valid, State of Texas Driver's License (If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver's License within 90 days of beginning employment.) AND at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age AND an acceptable driving record that covers at least the last three years of driver history.
  • Must have and maintain a working smartphone with internet access in order to communicate by phone and access on-call rosters 24/7.
  • Ability to pull and/or push in excess of 10 lbs of force and need to be sighted and hearing, with reasonable accommodations, and able to stand in small spaces for 2 or more hours.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Knowledge of issues related to gender-based violence, sexual assault and domestic violence.
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills with the ability to work well with a variety of other first responders including medical staff, forensic nurse examiners, law enforcement and victim services.
  • Must have ability to remain calm while providing crisis stabilization and establish rapport and trust without self-disclosure of your personal history.
  • Must have ability to engage survivors and really be present; be comfortable bearing witness to another's process, while maintaining separation between any past trauma of your own and the survivor's current crisis as this work can be triggering.
  • Must maintain good professional boundaries.
  • Must be able to complete SAFE Alliance's Office of the Attorney General (OAG)-certified 40-hour Core Advocate Training (CAT) & exam, the 20-hour Sexual Assault Medical Accompaniment training, 1 buddy accompaniment with a seasoned advocate and complete (and submit documentation for) 6 hours of OAG-approved continuing education annually.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check if applicable), as well as a pre-employment drug screen and TB test, if applicable.
