Planet SAFE Relief Guide (Planet SAFE)

SAFE Alliance seeks a Relief Guide for the Community Services Program in the Planet SAFE department. The Planet SAFE Relief Guide may supervise visitations between non-custodial parents and their children, may provide safe exchange services, and/or may operate the front desk, and support staff as needed. Responsibilities include assisting parents and children through process of visitations, being an advocate for both custodial parents and non-custodial parents, completing all required documentation, and ensuring that parents are abiding by Planet SAFE Guidelines.

We are dedicated to ending violence through prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by abuse.

In the past two years, our community outreach and education has provided over 400 trainings to over 7,000 community members. Our various housing and shelter programs have provided over 46,000 nights/days of care and served over 3,000 youth and adults directly affected by abuse. We have provided over 10,000 callers/chats/texts, walk-in advocacy and crisis interventions or face-to-face emotional support through our 24/7 confidential SAFEline.

Position Details:

We are looking for several people to work on a part-time, non-exempt basis for an hourly salary of $20.00 dependent upon experience. The work location will be at our Offsite Campus in Downtown Austin. This position will include no travel with no ability for remote/hybrid work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology or related field preferred; equivalent life, work, or volunteer experience can be substituted for degree. 
  • Experience in a supervised visitation setting preferred to assist parents and children throughout the process of Planet SAFE services including supervision of visitations between children and their visiting parent, and/or safe exchange services. Former Planet SAFE or SAFE staff will be given preference.
  • Be capable of sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as be able to intermittently push, pull, or lift 20+lbs. of force.
  • Ability to learn quickly and multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic environment and exercise exceptional decision quality and resourcefulness when working with families. Specifically, have the ability to intervene and/or terminate supervised visits when needed and provide safety planning resources for families.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office and have basic computer skills to offer support to the reception and front desk as needed, including answering phones and responding to email, coordinating entry and exit of Planet SAFE families, communicating updates to clients, and providing support to Planet SAFE staff as needed.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate family needs and concerns to other staff so limits are consistent; communicate effectively with families so they are clear about the guidelines around receiving services at Planet SAFE.
  • Bilingual Spanish & English is preferred but not required.
  • Adhere to all PRN Expectations, remain an active relief staff member as outlined in those expectations, and be available to cover shifts within the Planet SAFE operating hours (listed below). Attend additional agency or program meetings and trainings as required. The Planet SAFE operating hours are:
    • Friday 4 PM - 8 PM
    • Saturday 10 AM - 4 PM
    • Sunday 2 PM - 8 PM
    • Monday 4 PM - 8 PM
  • Ability to commit to being available for two days out of a month, either Saturday and/or Sunday.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check if applicable), as well as a pre-employment drug screen and TB test, if applicable.
  • All employees are required to comply with policies regarding COVID-19, which may be subject to change. COVID vaccines are still highly recommended, and we encourage employees to get vaccinated if they are able.
